PRESENT PRIORITY
Ultimately, we are
striving towards the regeneration of our small estate as outlined
in our proposal for regeneration Renewal, Integration, Regeneration,
However, our present priority is to make short-term improvements
to our area.
We are hoping to
start an allotment in the Garden of No. 3 Weston Gardens and
improve the look of No's 1 &2 by planting flowers and installing
a gate. We have received verbal support from Limerick Council
and we are preparing formal proposals.
EU PETITION
After years of negotiations,
Limerick City Council (LCC) finally completed plans for the
regeneration of Weston Gardens in November 2006. These plans
were advertised in the local newspapers on two occasions in
February 2007, but never lodged with the planning department
of LCC. This was because the new Director of Services for LCC's
Housing Department, Mr. Kieran Lehane had refused to sign off
on them.
Although plans were
completed, money had been secured from central government and
we had agreed at a meeting in November 2006 with all four of
our ward Councilors, the Gardaí and LCC housing officials,
to proceed with the plans, Mr. Lehane decided to abdicate responsibility
to Mr. John Fitzgerald. This effectively long-fingered any resolution
of our problems for a further five years.
We felt abandoned
by our Councilor's, TD's and our government, so we decided to
look to Europe for help.
